Sam Kerr | Emerging Artist in Traditional Painting
Hello! I’m Sam Kerr, an emerging artist based in Carlisle, Cumbria. After experimenting with digital art for a while, I found my true passion in traditional painting. Since September 2023, I’ve focused on creating dynamic and expressive artwork that reflects my personal experiences and emotions. My busy family life constantly surrounds me with inspiration, which I pour into my work whenever I can. Each day presents new ideas, and I try to capture that energy in my pieces.
Shifting from digital to traditional art has been a transformative experience. I couldn’t have made this change without the guidance of Victoria Newstead, who helped me navigate this new creative path. Working with traditional materials has opened up new dimensions of depth, texture, and vibrant colour, making my art feel more tangible and dynamic. Every brush stroke feels more deliberate, and I appreciate the hands-on nature of this medium.
Though I’m still finding my way with traditional painting, I embrace the freedom it offers. Each new piece brings its own set of surprises. I let the colours and shapes develop as they come, often discovering new aspects of the painting as I work. My approach to painting is unconventional, but I love the spontaneity of the process and the unique story each canvas tells.
Though I don’t have formal training, I believe art is all about expression, exploration, and authenticity. I’m always learning, growing, and evolving as an artist. My family’s support has been invaluable, giving me the courage and freedom to explore my artistic journey.
If you’re interested in seeing my work, I invite you to explore my portfolio, where you’ll find both recent and past paintings. Through my work, I aim to share my personal journey and artistic exploration as an emerging artist.
